The beauty of live performance albums is that they generally cost less than actually going to the show, and that's before the $8 parking and $5 ice-abundant soda. Of course, nothing comes close to seeing your favorite group live, though the U.K.'s Delirious? found a way to capture the experience as effectively as possible without actually sticking a shrill teenager beside you. The group's double-disc live album, Access:d — Live Worship in the Key of D, collects 20 tunes from their 2001 and 2002 stateside tours. The songs span the calendars with hits like What A Friend I've Found, Deeper, My Glorious, Touch, and History Maker, each capturing the moment with impassioned vocals, revved up tempos, and the roars of audience participation (no doubt mixing down those mercilessly off-key audience members). Sure, Delirious? already dropped Live and In The Can, but that was years ago and without the posh recording gear that selling millions affords a band. Looking back, these five lads — Martin Smith, Tim Jupp, Stew Smith, Stu G and Jon Thatcher — first hopped the pond in the mid-'90s alongside the U.K.'s other hot radio imports, but today it's Delirious? that continues selling albums as groups like Oasis and Blur have lived up to their names. |
